(English) Mexico is opening the largest solar panels in the world.

Claudia Sheinbaum, head of Government of Mexico City, presented that CDMX will have a construction of a photovoltaic electrical terminal on the roof of the Central de Abasto (Ceda), which will be the largest in the world of its kind within a city.
Rocío Nahle García , Secretary of Energy ( Sener ), explained that it is an urban solar field placed on the roof of the Central de Abasto that will generate up to 250 megawatts, but it will be the Federal Electricity Commission ( CFE ) who will make the corresponding balance.
She announced that through the Distributed Generation Support Program, small and medium-sized companies will installed solar panels, including the different states. She also specified that said project is labeled in the budget of 500 million pesos.
«This will help a lot to all the merchants of the Central de Abasto and it is clean energy within the city,» She said.
Fadlala Akabani Hneide , Secretary of Economic Development, explained that in the the photovoltaic plant, 400 million pesos will be used and among the benefits, 73.5 million pesos will be saved per year, almost 14 thousand tons of CO2 will be reduced, this is equivalent to that absorbed by 890 thousand trees, during 25 years of operation. In addition, the giant panel will benefit 440,000 Central de Abastos users every day.
Furthermore, the secretary assured that the photovoltaic plant will have a capacity of 18 Megawatts, generating 27.3 gigawatts per year equivalent to the consumption of 15,240 homes, the operating cost is 1.5% of the annual CAPEX.
Akabani Hneide clarified that the origin of the resources will be from the Sener Energy Transition and Sustainability Fund, from the Sener, but the CFE will do the bidding and supervision based on Federal Regulations.
It is estimated to start functioning in February of this year.
