Since September, Colombia has entered a new phase after five months of a stay at home order, called “Selective Isolation.” The new phase significantly eases restrictions on the movement of people.
The only activities that are prohibited are nightclubs, public or private events that involve large gatherings (more than 50 people) and consuming alcohol in public spaces.
Bogotá’s “New Reality” Model begins. The new model is also known as 4×4, which will initially run until September 30, allows for certain activities to be open based on a shift and schedule. For example, some activities, such as construction, manufacturing and wholesale trade will be carried out from Monday to Thursday. Whereas other activities like retail trade, hairdressers, boutiques, and restaurants may open from Thursday to Sunday. So long as it is the activities authorized day, the business may operate without a limitation on hours of operations.
Bogotá’s “Pico y Placa”. In Bogotá, the “Pico y Placa” restrictions will continue to restrict people’s ability to enter supermarkets, banks, commercial establishments, notaries and places where public proceedings are carried out to specific days. The specific day depends on a person’s government ID, for example those with the last digit of 1 will have specific days they are allowed to venture out for errands. Meanwhile in Medellín and Cali are also gradually reopening their own economy.
Domestic flights are already allowed throughout the country, but depending on the impact of each city, the local leaders will control the capacity or take measures such as decreasing the availability of certain routes.
Regarding international flights, it will be a more gradual process than previously thought and will also depend on the conditions established by each country of destination.
