Mexico

Mexico is currently in Phase 3. Hugo Lopez-Gatell, informed that the highpoint of the contagion will be on May 6^th and will start decreasing, only if the citizenship continues to stick to the sanitary measures, otherwise, this projection could not be fulfilled, therefore, the entire society is urged not to relax the measures of prevention.[1]

Additionally, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, reported that Mexico will make a contribution to the fund of 7.5 million euros, that the European Commission seeks, in order to finance the development of a vaccine, diagnostics and treatments against Covid-19. He participated in the “Global Response Summit for Coronavirus”, to enforce the Mexican government’s commitment with international efforts. He claimed these actions will allow the country to have access for all the equipment and vaccines that are required to overcome this pandemic.[2]

El Salvador

El Salvador is in the community transmission phase of COVID-19, therefore the Salvadoran government reported that the quarantine measure to mitigate the spread of the pandemic has been extended until May 16.

There is a new decree that indicates an extension to the containment measures already established, however, a change is contemplated with respect to the previous one, the most recent one indicates that not all people who circulate without justification will be quarantined for 30 days. From now on, only those considered suspicious cases of Covid-19 will be monitored. Likewise, it clarifies that the freedom of Salvadorans to enter the country will not be limited if they comply with the sanitary measures dictated by the Health authorities.[8]

Health Minister Francisco Alabi pointed out that the country has recently registered “quite optimistic data” about an important decrease on the curve of contagion, nevertheless he emphasized that these “will not be maintained if the population does not comply with the household quarantine.[9]

Additionally, President Nayib Bukele authorized 262 mayors to establish additional measures in each of their municipalities to control the mobility of citizens as a form of extra containment against the coronavirus.[10]
