The Colombian government has issued a new stay at home order for “Selective Isolation” until November 1, 2020, even though the number of coronavirus infections has steadily decreased in Colombia. The new order contains rules for preventing the spread of coronavirus, biosafety protocols, social distancing measures and emphasizes the public should avoid large gatherings.
The Selective Isolation protocol is based on the number of cases of Covid-19 in each city and requests local leaders implement new restrictions or avoid opening certain economic sectors if cases increase.
However, during this time, Colombia will allow travel throughout the country’s highways as well as international flights to Quito, Guayaquil, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Miami and New York. The opening of flights to Europe will depend on the restrictions the destinations have with other countries.
Colleges and universities will be able to open under a hybrid model where virtual classes will be mixed with face-to-face classes, along with rest periods.
Restaurants, shopping malls, beaches and hotels may continue to operate with so long as they follow biosecurity protocols. Some bars and amusement parks may open their doors with proper authorization from their local mayor’s office.
Concerts or events that generate crowds of people continue to be prohibited until further notice.
Economic reactivation. In the city of Bogotá, a reopening program called “Bogotá under the open sky” saw restaurant sales increase by 85% in September, with 6,900 establishments reopened and the generation of more than 14,000 jobs. The gastronomic sector has helped boost related sectors such as the sale of handicrafts and indigenous commerce.
On the other hand, the recreation and sports sector has put into operation 130 gyms that offer training outdoors on terraces, gardens, front gardens, public and / or private parks.
